Sight Reading for the Classical Guitar, Level IV-V" [Paperback] Review

I teach classical guitar and have found this book to be one of those "rare jewels" I sometimes am fortunate to come upon.This has to be one of the best books for understanding how to read classical guitar music notation, learning how to play up the neck in higher positions, phrasing, familiar and less frequently used tempo terms such as "Placidamente" (peacefully), and "Giocoso" (playfully). It also contains some excellent rhythm exercises and much, much more.It does not begin at the beginner's level but starts off on the very first page with intervals of a tenth, chord reading, and rhythmic reading in two voices.Every page is absolutely loaded with useful information and exercises that will make you slow down and really think about what you are doing and why.I cannot say enough good things about this book and it holds a very cherished place among my many other music books.I use it frequently to the point that many of the pages are now a bit worn-looking, but if you want to really become not just a good guitarist, but a great one, this book will definitely help you advance to those higher levels of musicality most guitarists never go.

The Classical Wedding: Piano Solo [Paperback] Review

I love the songs in this book - easy enough to play, but sound great.I had to practice a few to play in a wedding, but for the most part, it was perfect. The only thing I didn't like was that the book wouldn't stay open.I had to take it and get it spiral bound at a local Kinko's.

As a student teacher, I've been looking all over for resources to use in my future classrooms, and yesterday my friend and I came upon this excellent collection of illustrations.This is a wonderful selection ofmusical clip-art, ranging from serious pieces (such as composer profiles)to the very comical (such as the cat piano..erm, you'd have to see that oneto do it justice!:-)).
I would recommend this book to any music educatorwho would like to spice up programs, announcements, andassignments!

John Denver - The Complete Lyrics (Book) [Paperback] Review

Overall I like this book. The foreword by Tom Paxton and the introduction by Milt Okun are well worth reading.The comments about the songs are the best part of the book as they tell about how these songs began and developed and the people and places that had such a strong influence on them.

The only dissapointment came from finding neither music or chording in the book which was not a fault of the book itself but rather of the limited information about the book that was available from the description

All in all this is a very good book if you are a John Denver fan and a great help to those of us who have a hard time remembering the words sometimes

The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing [Paperback] Review

I was an All-State clarinetist in high school and the majority of my college tuition was paid for by the music department for my clarinet skills. I thought I knew a lot about the instrument before reading this book. I was WRONG. Very WRONG.
This book would have saved me so muchaggravation and practice time as a teenager! Things that I struggled with(such as performance anxiety before auditioning) became trivial. Thehistory of the instrument is laid out in an interesting manner and it ischock full of tips on how to care for your horn and become a better player.I only wish I had bought a copy sooner!
