First Book of Broadway Solos: Baritone/Bass Edition (Vocal Collection) [Paperback] Review

This is a great starter book for Baritone/Bass. Yeah I know the younger kids are going to want songs from newer shows like Avenue Q or Hairspray but you won't find any of those shows here. What you will find is a good collection of standard theater songs. The best part about it is the CD. Now the CD is not a Demo performance or anything so you won't hear anyone singing the song at all. It is just the piano playing the arrangement as written in the book. Some of the tempo's may be just a bit off, but if you either don't play well or don't have a piano at home you can play the CD and sing along with the accompanyment. As always, Dover has produced a clean, relatively easy to read score of one of music literature's masterpieces.The English translations are good, and the layout is quite readable.As a study score, or perhaps for use inperformance, this edition is highly recommeded.

There isn't much that the authors don't cover about what goes into a guitar, except for the actual methods of construction (for which you have to go to the Kinkead or Cumpiano books). In this book, you'll learn more than you'll ever need to know about woods, strings, and microphones, and the basics of how to optimize the adjustable bits for your style of playing. The authors know their stuff cold, and it shows.

To get the sort of knowldege this book offers, you have two choices. You could hang around guitar shops for years and years talking with salesmen, customers, repair people, and performers, and learning from them what they consider important in a guitar. Or, if you have a real job, you could read this book instead.

I bought "Baroque Guitar" about a year ago, and I am stillhaving great pleasure of the book. Noad has included artists like Bach,Dowland, and many others. If you are a beginner I wouldn't recommend thisbook, even though the book includes a lot of examples and explaining;baroque guitar is difficult! ... Noad also includes a section about trillsand ornamentation, which are characteristics for the baroque.

Don Giovanni (Dover Opera Libretto Series) (Italian and English Edition) [Paperback] Review

Don Giovanni is a simply wonderful opera, but for this single-language speaking gal I was at a loss for understanding.I looked high and low for a good translation, finally deciding on this which has side-by-side readings of the opera in itallian and english.

It's easy to read.It has a good introduction and great footnotes that give you a little extra information to take with you as you read.Unlike other companions, it includes every word spoken, so you don't get lost when they repeat themselves!

There's really not much to say about it -- simple, straightfoward, and worth the money.
